The Birmingham Architectural Association

The Birmingham Architectural Association (BAA) is the Birmingham branch of RIBA, founded in 1874 and run by a committee of volunteers from practices and universities throughout the city.

Representing architects, built environment professionals and creatives across the city, their aim is to promote, support and share knowledge. The committee holds events in unique venues where members are able to champion their interests and issues through workshops, talks and activities, as well as through publications and contributions to local and national design boards. The events are always free to attend and are for everyone, ranging from parties of 400 people to more intimate walking tours for 10-20 people.

Focus Groups

The BAA holds focus groups which gives their passionate volunteers a way of getting together and discussing topics important to them. Each group is run by a leader and involves a number of Committee members.

The five focus groups are:

  • Women in Architecture – Breaking Barriers: Continuous campaign for change.
  • Design and Delivery – Making multi-disciplinary connections. Knowledge sharing and demonstrations.
  • Calling All Creatives – Cultivating moments of creative expression and collaboration.
  • Students – Stepping stones for students.
  • Climate Action – Collaboration and collective action.
