The London Festival of Architecture (LFA) is the world’s largest annual festival of architecture. The festival aims to support London’s architectural talent by enthusing and engaging with the public and finding new ways to look at familiar places.

The festival began in 2004 and has since grown to become the world's largest annual architecture festival. The festival attracts a vast public audience (over 800,000 people a year) and a global media audience of millions. The majority of the 500+ events are free and staged by a core festival programming team, working alongside architectural and design practices and a group of professional programme supporters including Taylor Maxwell.

The festival celebrates London as a global hub of architectural experimentation, practice and debate and therefore aims to provoke discussions around architecture and explore new ideas. Since the pandemic, the festival has transitioned to offer a hybrid package of digital and in person events, engaging a vast new online audience.

2023 : In Common

Following on from the theme of ‘act’ in 2022, the 2023 festival theme is ‘in common’ - one that has multiple meanings and interpretations and aims to make us think more seriously about what we have in common and what we don't. Giving way to a varied programme of events celebrating architecture, event organisers will try to explore how we design, create, maintain and govern our cities, looking specifically at what connects us and what doesn't.

By examining what we have in common, it highlights what we don't and poses questions such as, if architects, developers and planners create spaces for people who sometimes they don't have much in common with, so how do they create these spaces with these different needs in mind and what overall effect does this have on our city?

2023 Events

In 2022, we partnered with leading UK brick manufacturers and main contractors to hold two events aimed at exploring the environmental issues faced within architecture, how as manufacturers, distributors and contractors we all have a part to play and what we're doing to take action. You can find out more here.

This year we are running two different events as part of a series, 'Commonalities in London Architecture'.

The first event in the series is a hands-on architectural masonry workshop, alongside industry leading manufacturer, Vobster Architectural. The workshop will give you the opportunity to form your own piece of Portland cast stone masonry, as well as learn about the many uses of cast stone within the construction industry, including those that enable contemporary London buildings to blend harmoniously with the historic vernacular.

The second event in the series is an interactive CPD seminar with handmade brick manufacturer, Lambs Bricks & Stone. The event aims to explore the process of manufacturing and firing oversized red rubber material and the advantages and disadvantages of traditional versus preformed arches. There will also be a practical demonstration by experienced heritage bricklayer Charles Reilly from Georgian Brickwork.
