Natural stone is an environmentally responsible and sustainable material, as energy is only used for the extraction of the natural stone from an open surface quarry and then processing it. This energy usage for production is relatively low when compared with other building materials often produced in a factory environment.

Natural stone also stands the test of time, with many ancient buildings, churches and other structures still standing after centuries. This means less construction time and energy is required to make repairs or re-do buildings where materials have deteriorated.
