Overview

Rufford Pastures is an award-winning housing development in North Nottinghamshire, built by Robert Woodhead Limited. Located a 10-minute walk from Sherwood Forest, the collection of homes offers between two and five bedrooms and are sympathetically designed to suit their rural surroundings. Across a total of 67 plots, the development provides energy efficient and multi-generational living on a seven-acre site.

Taylor Maxwell worked with Robert Woodhead Limited to select the facing bricks and Hardie® Plank fibre cement cladding used on the housing site, which was designed by Joseph Kemish Architects. The materials were carefully chosen to reflect the existing materials used within the local area of Edwinstowe.

Concept to Completion

Created across four phases, the 67 properties include a range of bungalows, townhouses and detached homes. The street elevations predominantly feature facing bricks, with render and Hardie® Plank cladding used on a number of the buildings to soften the overall aesthetic of the development. These were mindfully selected to work harmoniously within the surrounding landscape, whilst also offering graceful aging of the building envelopes.

The Bamford Blend brick from our solus range was selected for its sand-creased texture and red colouring, which offered a close visual match to the red brickwork on nearby buildings. To complement the red bricks and light coloured render, Hardie® Plank fibre cement cladding was added as an accent detail, bringing a unique touch to each home. This brought a cohesive, yet distinctive look across the entire development.

The Hardie® Plank cladding range, manufactured by James Hardie, is a low maintenance alternative to using natural timber cladding, offering an A2 fire rating and BBA certification (04/4147). This makes it a popular choice on housing developments where the visual effect of timber is desired, but a certified product is an important safety factor. The weatherboard cladding was selected in two colours, a dark grey and brown to complement the red brickwork and colour palette used in the local area.

Since completion, the site has been awarded the ‘Best High Volume New Housing Development’ prize at the LABC East Midlands Awards, recognising the project’s fabric-first approach and 5 star EPC rating, alongside its build and design quality. Properties on the development continue to be hugely popular with buyers due to the high standard of homes and the on-site community spaces, which include an orchard, central green landscape and children’s play area.
